When visiting a temple, if you drive a motorcycle, turn it off upon entering the grounds, and park in the designated area. It is recommended to wear a Buddhist robe. If you lack a robe, please wear long pants, rather than shorts, and long-sleeve shirts, rather than sleeveless. How we dress represents our culture and our virtue. Please take care of your robe. It should not be rolled up in a knot or become wrinkled. Keep it in a place that’s clean and neat. Stand still to put your robes on. Don’t walk and try to put on a robe at the same time. Shoes should be placed in an orderly manner, anywhere at a temple. Don’t step on empty shoes. Walk softly so as not to make noise that might disturb others’ mindful practice. Don’t run, laugh, whistle, sing, talk loudly, or shout to anyone in the temple’s courtyard. Don’t go to a temple after drinking alcohol. Do not lie to your loved ones that you are going to the temple when you are actually going somewhere else.
